Ethical Standard
TPFA has established that members must sign and adhere to a 10-point Ethical Code of Conduct and promote the implementation of Good Labor Practices (GLP) in workplaces. It also organizes Social Dialogue Workshops to support the use of welfare committee mechanisms for dialogue between employers and employees, while continuously conducting activities and preparing annual reports.
Additionally, TPFA collaborates with various entities, including government agencies (Ministry of Labor), private sector organizations (Thai Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Thai Industries), civil society (NGOs), and international organizations to address and promote key labor issues such as combating child labor, forced labor, human trafficking, the registration of migrant workers, and the promotion of human rights in the fishing industry.
Key Activities:
- Promotion of Good Labor Practices (GLP): Since 2016, the association has been supporting the fair treatment of workers in areas such as promoting freedom of association, setting compensation and benefits, and ensuring safe working environments. Currently, external organizations are invited to observe these activities for transparency. Furthermore, since 2020, the association has expanded data collection on ethical labor recruitment and human rights principles to address new labor issues arising from the changing global context.
- Social Dialogue Workshop: Since 2014, the association has been promoting the use of welfare committee mechanisms in workplaces as a tool for negotiations between employers and employees.
- “Ship to Shore Rights SEAs” Project: Implemented by ILO, IOM, UNDP, and the Ministry of Labor, with funding from the European Union (EU), this project aims to improve working conditions in the fishing and seafood processing industries across seven countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. In Phase 2 (2020–2024), the project achieved significant results, such as promoting Seafood Good Labor Practices (SGLP), training workers, exchanging views on the C188 Convention and the Labor Protection Act (B.E. 2541), and establishing a migrant labor data center. Phase 3, starting in 2025, will focus on expanding the impact of these initiatives in the fishing industry and supply chains across the Southeast Asia region.
